another reason to use an ampersand

Gabriel & Dresden are back together!

Just so you guys know…

Did a mashup of their vocals and a Deadmau5 track for them a while back (out of a G&D withdrawal), and thank God they are back together.

Josh’s listener friendly tech savvy and Dave’s obvious knack for picking the most iconic melodies in dance music is what made them a dynamic duo the first time around, and I’m fairly sure that we can expect nothing less from them this time around. I have no doubt that given ample time in a studio, these two will produce some new-found gold for their dedicated fans.

To be completely honest, I’m beyond jealous of the constructive partnership that those two have found. Usually when I begin a music making venture with friends, there are too many personal goals that are at odds and everything ends in a passive-aggressive parting. Not true with the G&D. They obviously speak the same language and know what they want to accomplish.

Here’s to a welcomed end of their songwriting sabbatical. Josh & Dave, we want MORE!

In certain cases my weaknesses are that I’m too idealistic. Realize that sometimes best is the enemy of better. Sometimes I go for “best” when I should go for “better,” and end up going nowhere or backwards. I’m not always wise enough to know when to go for the best and when to just go for better. Sometimes I’m blinded by “what could be” versus “what is possible,” doing things incrementally versus doing them in one fell swoop. Balancing the ideal and the practical is something I still must pay attention to.

more alessandro

So Alessandro Cortini. What a musically talented and blessed individual. I’ve only just begun my trek back through the NIN catalog, but the tiniest bit I’ve heard of Alessandro on the internet leaves no doubt that he was (maybe still is??) a massive influence on the NIN/”Trent Reznor” sound. I’ve already posted the vimeo video of “Happy,” but these next ones are just as melancholy and heart-wrenching as that one, coming out of only one Buchla synthesiser. Check it.

Christmas Day Promo Mix.

xmasPromoMix Sort of a mini-mix as it says in the audio-watermark, as it’s less that an hour long, but it still embodies my taste in dance music, so it’s well worth posting. Starts off with an indie dance remix by Yuksek (personal fave of mine), moves into dubby prog territory, and then finishes off with a track that could easily be considered (dare I say it… !!!) …. dubstep. Oh my goodness. Even with my hatred for the “genre” of dubstep I have to say that the culminating remix is a gem. Well done RuN RiOT, whoever you are. Enjoy if you please.

Deadmau5 x Gabriel & Dresden

Just another case of stumbling upon an epic harmony between two tunes. These two go together like pb & j. 320 for the DJs. Click the image. Enjoy!

Taylor Steele’s interactive video project, “Innersection” isn’t really news, but the surfing that takes place in these submissions is making me wonder if what I’m doing is even considered surfing. Or maybe what they’re doing isn’t considered surfing. I don’t know. Either way it’s rad and should get you amped to go try some nuts shit on a wave.

it’s been awhile

For whatever reason, I haven’t felt like writing anything here in a while. But here’s a little nonsensical blog post to make sure I at least put one in for April.

But does it float? is a nice little art blog that I’ve been cruising around, via fffound. Here’s a couple of my favorite images:

In other news, the new Zoot Woman album is pretty great. There’s an even better version of “Lonely by Your Side” on it. Check it out here.

Also check out the Delorean remix of the Teenager’s “Love No,” re-posted from the music ninja.:

The Teenagers :: “Love No” (Delorean Remix)

I would say best, but I’m not from Germany.
